Eco Learn at Hickory Ski Center

EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 6PM UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST!

Eco Learn is a program hosted by Hickory Ski Center with the goal of gathering local youth to explore the natural world. This year, Pickle Knoll Outdoors will be the resident environmental educators, leading guided walks through the Hickory property every Wednesday at 6pm.Eco Learn is a free program, open to anyone between the ages of 5-11. Drop your kid(s) off and take time to relax at home or stay at Hickory to play a round of disc golf.

We will spend about an hour teaching outdoor skills and environmental knowledge to encourage kids to respect and cherish the wonderful resources we have in the Adirondacks. The topics range from how to treat water and build a fire to identifying plants, birds, and fungi. Every week has a focus with a flexible learning environment that allows children to get outdoors and enjoy some fresh air. See the full schedule below.

Free Weekly Walk

EVERY THURSDAY AT 6PM UNTIL THE END OF OCTOBER!

For May to October 2024 we will be meeting at Kipp Mountain in Chester on Thursdays at 6pm. This event is free and suitable for folks with average fitness levels. Bring sturdy shoes, water, and a light snack. Registration is required, group sizes are limited.

  • Surface Type: Dirt

  • Difficulty: Moderate

  • Length: 1.9 miles round trip

  • Trailhead Coordinates: -73 50.21 43 41.54

  • Notes: This moderate hike has some steep sections but winds through an official tree farm and leads to a cliff line with beautiful views of Loon Lake.

In our small Adirondack town, community is important. That’s why we started our Free Weekly Walks. From May to October, we meet at the same trailhead every week. Together, we walk through the woods or up a mountain. The duration of the walk often varies. Some days we stop to identify fungi, trees, and flowers. Other times the group chats as we walk with few breaks. Each week we have a unique experience on the trail and we enjoy the changing seasons and weather. Join us to meet new people, clear your head, and enjoy this incredible protected land.
